Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, there lived a fair maiden named Caliana Ariel.  She had beautiful golden locks and azure blue eyes that were the exact color of the sea.  She live with her godmother in a snug little cottage right on the waterfront.  Each evening the gentle waves lulled her to sleep while every morning she awoke to the smell of fresh salty air.  As far back as she could remember Cali had lived with her godmother whom she affectionately call Aunty Louise.  Her godmother was a fishmonger by trade and so Cali spent her day cleaning fish by the bucketloads.  It was messy, smelly work, but Cali never complained.
Although she was expected to work hard during the day, Cali's evenings were her own to enjoy.  Usually after supper dishes had been cleared away she would take long walks in the woods.  She loved the beauty and peacefulness of the forest, and it gave her time to think and dream...
Lost in her daydreams Cali wandered into the woods further than she ever had gone before.  The trees towered above her and became denser and darker.  Thick vines and velvety moss carpeted the trunks and roots.  There was a drowsy stillness in the air.  Cali had entered the Old Forest.
She was a little startled to look around and not see anything familiar.  Frightened she turned back hoping to retrace her steps back to the familiar woods that she loved.  Just then her eyes lighted upon a sight so incredible she had to stop and stare.
Through the trees to her right was a castle.  Huge grey stones rose up in towers almost as tall as the tree tops.  Leafy green vines ran all along the stones in a race for the sunlight.  But what amazed Cali most of all were the cats. For peeping out of each window and running along every turret were dozens and dozens of calico cats.  Each one had its own regal markings and no two looked the same.  Although cats, they seemed connected to the castle.  "Oh!" exclaimed Cali, "What an amazing sight.  I shall call this Calico Castle."
